The addition of VoIP services to the cable TV package requires system maintenance to be stepped up a notch. This means that return band alignment, maintenance and troubleshooting are of critical importance. Trilithic offers a variety of products that work together to provide an optimal solution for VoIP service readiness and maintenance.
Monitoring the return band with DSP technology enables capture of fast transient impulse noise and ingress, as well as visibility of interfering signals beneath service carriers using our unique TraffiControl feature. SNMP traps triggered by interference notify personnel to problems, with scalable alarms. The 9581 SST R4 is also compatible with Trilithic's unrivaled RSVP2 Installer's Reverse Tester, which provides for proper testing and installation of cable modems. Proper alignment is critical to ensure optimal VoIP service quality. RSVP2 alignment features are also available on the 860 DSPi, which is a full-featured Installation Analyzer.
The 860 DSPi has two different VoIP test functions. For the RTP (Real Time Protocol) test the 860 DSPi communicates with a server side application. This test produces both upstream and downstream results for packet loss, latency and jitter, with an algorithm generated MOS (Mean Opinion Score). The second test, based on ICMP (lnternet Control Message Protocol) utilizes any network device on the system and produces roundtrip results for packet loss, lost packet ratio, latency and jitter.
