Cable MSO’s are rapidly deploying "wideband" technology (marketing speak for DOCSIS 3.0) to eliminate a perceived differentiating advantage of high speed data throughput offered by competitors. Additionally it is hoped that these very high speed data services will generate high margin service revenue and increase ARPU (Average Revenue Per User). These services will be especially attractive to businesses and game enthusiasts. Because the services are rolling out with a relatively high price tag, customers will very likely expect high quality and reliability. This means that the service provider must be able to verify signal quality, and troubleshoot quickly when problems arise. Many physical tests can be performed on DOCSIS 3.0 signals with existing DOCSIS 2.0 meters, especially if the signals are configured in a way that enables DOCSIS 2.0 modem provisioning, but having an embedded DOCSIS 3.0 modem ensures that the tech will be ready for testing on any type of DOCSIS 3.0 signal.
DOCSIS-3 Testing?
You Got It!
Trilithic is proud to offer the first comprehensive DOCSIS 3.0 test capability in a rugged hand-held analyzer designed for use in the cable industry.
860 DSPi Field Analyzer Equipped with Embedded DOCSIS 3.0 Modem
The D3 option builds-in a CableLabs certified DOCSIS 3.0 modem, enabling a full complement of DOCSIS 3.0 tests, including complete statistical information about each of the bonded signals, including individual downstream receive levels and upstream transmit levels, downstream MER and pre- and post-FEC BER. Additionally, full range throughput tests can be performed up to 152 Mbps.
The "cable modem statistics" mode provides comprehensive information for all up and downstream signals in bonded sets. The signal that is configured as “primary” is highlighted.
