Ingress Monitoring Software Release 3

Features:

  • SNMP Compliant
  • Monitors Thousands of Nodes
  • Live, Programmed and Playback Modes
  • Local Paginf, Configurable Alarms
  • Many Enhancements Over Previous Releases

IngressManagR is the software that operates Trilithic's Guardian Return Path Monitoring System, collecting and analyzing ingress data from 9580 SST and 9581 SST Reverse Path Analyzers. Release 3 adds a wide range of capabilities to the application, including SNMP compatibility, expanded viewing "trees," refined analysis of ingress severity and much more. SNMP compliance means that the operator may now integrate his Guardian Monitoring System into higher-level status management systems at the NOC and ROC. And the integration will be trouble-free: IngressManagR's SNMP agent has been tested and proven compatible with the status management systems of most major suppliers. IngressManagR Release 3 is the most flexible version of the software ever offered. Communicating with NCM-4 V3 Network Communications Managers at the SST sites, IngressManagR Release 3 supports simultaneous, multi-site operation in any combination of Scan, Live, and Ping Modes by up to six independent users. It can even download some testing tasks to the NCM-4s themselves.

Key Operating Modes

Scan Mode

In the hubs, NCM-4 Network Communications Managers buffer return spectra captured by 9580/9581 SST Reverse Path Analyzers, and retains the awaiting upload. IngressManagR Release 3, operating in Scan Mode, and under the management of a user-assembled Scan Strategy, sequentially polls the NCM-4s and uploads the most recent spectrum of each node. IngressManagR Release 3 compares the uploaded data to four user-entered ingress limit thresholds. It also checks to make sure the node is alive by testing for a minimum signal level. Any detected ingress problems trigger pagers, display on-screen messages and other alarms, and cause SNMP traps to be sent to high-level management systems. The destination of each trap can be configured in accordance with ingress severity and location. IngressManagR Release 3 can also download the limit thresholds to the NCM-4s in the hubs. When operating in PING mode, the NCM-4s can perform the comparison to limits locally and report only those nodes experiencing problems to IngressManagR when polled. PING Mode minimizes data transfer time and greatly accelerates Hub polling speed. Two copies of IngressManagR Release 3 can be run simultaneously on each of several controllers or on the same controller. Each copy can run its own Scan Strategy. Up to 6 Scan Strategies can access data from the same nodes without contention.

Live Mode

IngressManagR allows an operator to manually select and view spectra from one or more nodes. Users can observe the selected spectra at the maximum refresh rate without interrupting any running Scan Strategies even those that are polling the same Hubs. Alternatively, the user may employ ViewR, an simple, live-viewing applet supplied with IngressManagR. Playback Mode The user may use Playback Mode to view previously-filed spectra. The user can specify a node or group of nodes and review their spectra over a specified time interval. Stored spectral records may be automatically sequenced and displayed as a "movie," showing how ingress conditions changed over time.

Bonus Application: ViewR

Every registered copy of IngressManagR Release 3 also includes a copy of ViewR software. ViewR is a simplified live-viewing application that uses very little of a PC's resources. Several copies can be opened as needed. Each open copy of ViewR can be dragged to display the selected node on a small portion of the user's PC screen. The rest of the PC screen remains available for other applications. ViewR is not license-controlled and may be copied freely.

ArchivR: Flexible Archiving Application

ArchivR manages data files and archives long-period data to local or remote storage media. IngressManagR maintains FIFO (First In / First Out) files of all recorded spectra and can be set to transfer the oldest records in these files to long-term file storage at regular intervals. Unique to the Guardian Monitoring System, uploaded spectra may be retained in archive indefinitely. Records are compact and use hard drive space efficiently: an entire year's spectra can be archived in only 12 GB of disk space. All IngressManagR files are Microsoft Access ® compatible and are readable by IngressManagR Release 3 and by all popular database management applications.
