Fast and Easy Testing
Now there is a fast, easy way to test home cabling for resistance to signal ingress. Reverse ingress problems start in the subscriber's home. Electrically noisy devices such as hair dryers and electric mixers generate enough RFI to infect the return path and block digital signals. Good cable shielding and a careful installation will keep most of this noise out of the coaxial environment, but even the smallest flaw can admit serious levels of ingress. The only sure solution is to verify the shielding effectiveness of every installation. Fortunately, the Guardian Isometer, working with the Guardian RSVP2, makes doing this fast, easy and cost-effective.
Test Shielding Effectiveness
The Guardian IsoMeter is a reverse leakage tester, sensitive to a special "tagged" reverse frequency test signal generated by a Guardian RSVP 2 Installer's Reverse Tester. The installer simply connects the RSVP 2 at the ground block then brings the Guardian IsoMeter close to the coax. If the test signal is detectable, there is a problem somewhere in the installation. The installer can find the source of the problem by listening to the IsoMeter's audible tone while moving in the direction that causes a rise in pitch. When no leakage is detectable, the installer can be sure that the cabling in that home is ready to withstand all common sources of ingress. The IsoMeter features color LED indicators for low battery, high-range attenuator, and power. A convenient keypad gives the user control of audio volume and enables/disables the tagged carrier feature. The IsoMeter is factory-tuned to 28 MHz and comes complete with a flexible antenna, belt clip, and internal NiMH battery and is housed in a rugged, moisture-resistant, high-impact case. The IsoMeter carries TRILITHIC's full two-year warranty.
